Mayor Jim Watson met with Festival and Foundation CEO John Brooman today to proclaim June 23rd to the 26th to be "Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival Days".

North America's largest dragon boat festival the Tim Hortons Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival hits Mooney's Bay Park from June 23-26 with 200 teams and 5000 paddlers competing from the Philipines, United States and Canada.

In addition to the fierce competition of teams battling it out on the water of Mooney's Bay the festival has an outstanding lineup of free entertainment. The free concert lineup closes out each evening of the festival with headliners July Talk, Mother Mother, Alvvays and A Tribe Called Red.

There’s lots more family fun to take in over the weekend, including multiple shows by professional stunt cyclist Chris Clark who wows the crowd with high-flying stunts while speaking to the audience about harnessing their passions and achieving their full potential; the Paddling Puppeteers, who weave a lesson about the history of the Ottawa River into their performance. There’s also face painter Painted Pixie, Little Ray’s Reptiles, Ottawa REDBLACKS cheerleaders, The RCAF Pipes and Drums, Chinese Lion Dancers, a roaming dinosaur, Tai-Chi demonstrations and DJ PPLMove, DJ NOYPI, Kennedy Cult and so much more.

With all that you're going to be building up an appetite. This year the festival will have an amazing assortment of food vendors bringing you exotic fare from a variety of cultures as well as Canadian classics including Tim Hortons who will be bringing their signature coffee (aka the lifeblood of Canadians) to the event. It's not often all this gathers in one place, so be sure to check out the free festival from June 23rd to the 26th!
