After 30 years together, B.C. alt-rockers 54-40 have become more like a polished stone than a diamond in the rough. Founders Neil Osborne and Brad Merritt have known the diamond period, but they've endured much more. They've come through the new wave (and whatever resistance that tossed up), been with an American label, had success with a major Canadian label, set up their own label, gone independent. The band plays Ottawa's Dragon Boat Festival this weekend.
