BLOG: SURVIVAL KIT

When you come to the Tim Horton’s Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival, you need to be prepared for a grueling day of excellent food and free entertainment. And then a night of free concerts! All that can wear you down, so make sure you bring these essentials to make sure your day goes flawlessly.
This may be the only time it is socially acceptable to rock a fanny pack, and you can do it with confidence knowing all your valuables are safe and sound next to your fanny. Just take it off when you’re heading home to avoid being ostracised from regular society.
The sun will be shining and it will be a beautiful weekend at Mooney’s Bay Park. But all those rays are going to be bouncing off the water and glaring into your eyes. Be sure to bring protection for them (plus you might look as cool as this hedgehog).
Water. Your body is made of 70% water. Now before you start thinking about how weird that is, remember to bring a reusable water bottle to the festival. First of all, because it will keep you alive, but it also cuts down on litter and helps us be as green as possible. There will be a hydration station at the Festival where you can re-fill your bottles and stay hydrated and happy.
The sun is literally a giant ball of fire, and it will burn you even if it is a few million miles away. Unless you enjoy the feeling of your skin cells spontaneously combusting, apply some sunscreen to keep yourself safe. No one likes looking like a tomato, and we all have that friend that is going to slap your sunburn. Best way to avoid that is to not get burnt in the first place, or stop hanging out with that guy. He’s awful.
Phone charger (Solar, wind-up)
No one likes the creeping, existential loneliness that accompanies a phone with no batteries. No one likes walking around without a screen to stare at like some kind of barbarian. But seriously, the festival will not have electrical outlets, so unless you’ve got a great battery be sure to bring some kind of portable charger so you can find your friends if you get separated.
