Whether you're paddling on the water, checking out the entertainment or enjoying our free concerts, you're going to be building up an appetite at the Tim Hortons Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival. This year we have an amazing assortment of food vendors from across Ottawa and Ontario bringing you Canadian classics and exotic fare from a variety of cultures. Be sure to check out Part 2 next week, as we can't fit all the wonderful selections into one post!

The beaver has been Canada’s national symbol for hundreds of years. Settlers lived off their tails, which as everyone knows, are made of dough and when deep fried and covered in delicious toppings were an excellent source of energy to keep them warm in the unforgiving Canadian wilderness. OK, 90% of that was lies, but this Canadian staple which mixes fried dough, sugar and an insane variety of toppings has made these tasty treats famous around the country. Perfect as a portable snack, Beavertails at ODBF will be offering seven different flavors, from chocolate and hazelnut to garlic and cheese.

Big D’s Dog House and Poutine Emporium

Hot dogs and poutine are simple right? Not when you hit up Big D’s Dog House! At ODBF they’ll be boasting eight kinds of gourmet hot dogs and eight kinds of gourmet poutine as well. Pictured above is the Western Omelette Dog, which involves wrapping a hot dog in a western omelette and covering it in cheddar cheese. Breakfast and lunch wrapped into one package! One dollar from every dog sold will be donated to the Ottawa Dragon Boat Foundation, so you can feel good about yourself as you scarf down Big D’s foot long Angry Dragon Dog.

Gabriel's Pizza

There aren’t many humans that don’t like pizza. I’ve met about three, and each one of them never really convinced me that they WEREN’T an alien. Gabriel’s will be on-site, offering slices and full pizzas. Pizza is perfect festival-fare, as it acts as its own holding device. Be sure to check out the Dragon Boat Pizza, made with roasted red peppers, sun dried tomatoes, spinach, roasted garlic and parmesan cheese, as a portion of the proceeds go towards the Ottawa Dragon Boat Foundation in support of local charities. Add some bacon to it if you need that meat in your life. Gluten free options available!
