Message From The Chair

Friday, December 16, 2016

I wanted to take the time to personally thank everyone for all of your support during 2016.  We had an amazing year and it all comes down to your support.

As a culmination of this year’s hard work, the Ottawa Dragon Boat Foundation was proudly able to distribute funds on everyone’s behalf to both the Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa and the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation.  Both are amazing organizations and I am very grateful for all of the work these charities do in our community.  I want to point out that these will not be the last charitable disbursements from our 2016 fundraising as we are currently in the process of selecting additional charities as part of our inaugural year of the Ottawa Dragon Boat Foundation Community Fund.  These will be announced and made throughout the New Year and leading up to our 2017 summer festival.  Again, thank you all for your support to make these donations possible.

As many of you are probably already aware, we are in the process of launching the Ottawa Ice Dragon Boat Festival, which will take place on Dow’s Lake on February 17th and 18th.  This will be the first ice dragon boating event in North America and we have been absolutely surprised with the success of its launch, which sold out in less than ten minutes.  We expect these to be a fun two days of competition and we hope that it provides an additional fundraising opportunity so we can continue our positive impact within our community.  For those of you that were able to register, and those that weren’t so lucky, I look forward to seeing you all out on the ice in February.

Paddles up!
