Metro News: Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival breathes fire into five local charities

A few raindrops Sunday morning along the Rideau didn’t seem to put much of a damper on the final day of the 22nd annual Tim Hortons Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival at Mooney’s Bay.

“It’s been an amazing weekend,” said Shelley Freake, the festival’s director of fundraising and teams. “We’ve surpassed our goal of $300,000, and there’s still money coming in.”

With 170 teams, and almost 4,500 participants, Ottawa’s dragon boat festival has become the largest of its kind in North America.
