"Dragon boating has a particular technique," said Marilyn Stuart, captain of Cascades, a team that trains for dragon boating events year round and will be competing at the club crew world championships in Malaysia in August. "Not only do you have to be technically perfect, but you've got to be part of a team.

"You've got to be in-stroke, you've got to be going in the water at the same millisecond and you've got to be coming out of the water at the same millisecond. ... It's a science." On Mooney's Bay yesterday, the most disciplined crews of 20 stroked in perfect unison, slicing through the water as team drummers pounded out the paddling rhythm while coxswains maintained a straight path.
