Ottawa Sun: 75,000 people expected for Dragon Boat Festival

This year’s Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival is the largest in the world, say organizers.

“So we keep expanding, it’s wonderful,” said festival president and CEO John Brooman.

The 19th edition runs from June 22-24 at Mooney’s Bay Park.

“We have 204 teams, which is 14 teams ahead of this time last year,” said Brooman.

Kanata South Coun. Allan Hubley, honourary chairman of the Ottawa Dragon Boat Foundation, took his maiden dragon boat voyage at the Rideau Canoe Club on Wednesday, along with Beacon Hill-Cyrville Coun. Tim Tierney.

Practice went “very well. Beautiful day for paddling, and we didn’t get anybody wet,” said Hubley.
