Ottawa Citizen: Dragon Boat Festival issues call for volunteers

As the Dragon Boat Festival grows, so does its need for volunteers.

The annual festival has issued a call for more helping hands as the largest-ever edition draws near. Organizers are looking to recruit at least 200 more volunteers before the events kick off June 25-28.

It comes at a time of continued expansion for the Dragon Boat Festival.

Creative director Antony Cooper said this week that the 2015 edition will be 15 per cent larger than last year’s festival, in line with its growth rate over the past 15 years.

The concert element in particular has grown exponentially over the past five years, he said.

This year’s festival will feature 13 popular artists across four days, including the headlining acts Yukon Blonde, Hey Rosetta, Dan Mangan + Blacksmith and Tokyo Police Club.

“There’s a corresponding need in terms of having more (volunteers) out,” said Cooper.
